Born in Hyderabad, Akshath Reddy first made an impact at the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup scoring a well compiled 94 opening the innings against England. Soon after, he was drafted into Hyderabad's Ranji Trophy squad for the 2010-11 season.
Since then, he has cemented his place in the side. He grew from strength to strength every season and scored heavily in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. He scored his career-best 196 against Mumbai in 2012 and helped his side draw the game.
Akshath's impressive domestic record earned an IPL contract with Deccan Chargers in 2012, for whom he played a few games before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 12 IPL games, Reddy scored 164 runs with a highest of 42 and was released by the franchise in the next season.
But he went back to the grind and amassed 690, 536, 624 and 535 runs in the next 4 seasons. Despite churning up a bucket load of runs, Akshath was overlooked by the selectors for the India A sides which also took a toll on his batting. A couple of lean seasons followed but Reddy came back strongly by smashing 797 runs at an average of whopping 79.7 in 2018-19. This time his hard work bore fruit as he got a call-up to the Duleep Trophy in August 2019 and Reddy seized his opportunity, recording a century on the opening day for India Green.
