A bulky wicket-keeper batsman from Saurashtra, Snell Patel was christened after former South Africa pacer Richard Snell by his uncle. In quest for better prospects in Cricket, his family decided to send him to the national capital - Delhi - at the age of 10. He spent five years without any large success and moved back to his native of Jamnagar. It was at the national school games that he got first noticed and that paved way for his inclusion in the U-16 team. Snell worked his way up to make his Ranji debut in 2015 against Odisha but scores of 3 and 6 in both innings didn't help his cause to keep his place in the team.

The wicket-keeper batsman made a comeback into the side on the back of strong shows for Saurashtra U-22s and this time he did justify his selection by scoring 224 runs in 3 matches. Since then he was a regular in the team and 2018-19 was his barnstorming season where he scored 760 runs in 11 games and also played a key role in Saurashtra's road to the final. Snell also hammered a century in the final and became the first non-Mumbai cricketer to achieve that feat. However, his ton went in vain as his team narrowly lost to Vidarbha. In August, Snell Patel was added to the India Blue squad for the Duleep Trophy.
